Bravo heads in for grooming
Bravo is our rescue mascot! He is a 6 year old Black Shire gelding. Bravo is calm and gentle but doesn't know his own size! He loves attention and is very curious so he will most likely greet you when near his pasture. See below for Bravo's story.

- Hi. My name is Pam and I am a volunteer at the HRRRF, Inc and lucky to be President of Bravo's Fan Club. I first saw a picture of Bravo in the Points North Magazine and knew I had to meet him. Since then I spend as much time as I can, visiting Bravo daily during the week. It truly MAKES my day!! Bravo's Fan Club
Bravo was bred in Ill. at a large Shire breeding farm. He was one of the unlucky ones culled from the herd and sent to await the trip to the slaughter plant. For years, the culled herd of Shires and Shire crossbred horses were sent away to the Dekalb, Ill. slaughter plant. He would have been slaughtered along with many of the other Shires IF it had been open for business. The plant had burned and for two and a half years the plant was closed. Many Shires and other horses had to sit in a feed lot and wait to be hauled to TX or Canada to be slaughtered. During that closed time, the rescue was able to acquire some Shires - Bravo at 18 months old was one of them. Bravo is our mascot and a reminder of why we continue to fight horse slaughter for human consumption.
